June is always a favorite month on campus, not only for its magnificence but for the teeming activity throughout Noble's 110 acres. We had a picture-perfect day for our senior health and fitness program, captured in the accompanying photo. Following class with Suzanne Mazzarelli and an invigorating walk, guests enjoyed a delicious lunch featuring fresh salmon, grilled asparagus and other delectable treats.
Last week featured an evening picnic at the Hotchkiss School farm where students described their work and what they grow, answered countless questions and insisted we return to sample the fall harvests. The Hotchkiss students then came to Noble to perform musical vignettes and play a hysterical game of trivial pursuit with questions like How much did a McDonald’s hamburger cost in 1948 or What was the most popular TV show from 1960-61? (*Answers at the end of this newsletter.)
Despite the high rates of Covid in Litchfield County, Noble residents have remained Covid-free and both staff and residents have taken advantage of the multiple booster clinics Noble has offered. We hope your summer is off to a healthy and happy start and that its lazy days will offer you time for rest and relaxation.
To Feel Loved and Appreciated
When asked why she chose to work in a senior living community instead of a hospital or a doctor’s office, Ronica Doyer is very clear, “At Noble Horizons the environment is very different from a hospital or traditional nursing home – it’s like I’m in the resident’s home. I get the opportunity to sit and have deep conversations, give them a hug if they need it and just let them know they are loved and appreciated. It’s amazing being a part of their lives.“
Like so many nurses at Noble Horizons, Ronica followed her destiny. “My goal has always been to become a nurse. I love to care for people and nurture them – especially the elderly."

Noble's old-fashioned Community Picnic, first hosted in the 1970s, will be better than ever with the Lakeville Hose Company preparing their famous BBQ chicken with baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw, and a roll to be followed by a delectable 50th birthday cake and ice cream. To quench your thirst, you can choose from a variety of wines, beer, Harney tea, lemonade and refreshing cold water. Thanks to generous support from the Noble Horizons Auxilary, you can savor all this for only $15/person or $40 for a family!
You can also enjoy festive music from the Salisbury Band which played at Noble's first Community Picnic almost a half-century ago! It's Time for Summer Reading!
Join the Hotchkiss School's Carita Gardiner for an engaging read of the acclaimed book, Island Queen by Vanessa Riley. Beginning on June 22, from 5-6 pm and running weekly on Wednesdays through August 3, Carita will lead guided discussions of the new novel that The New York Times calls, “Riveting and transformative, evocative and immersive…by turns vibrant and bold and wise, discovering Dorothy’s story is a singular pleasure.”
