Ronica Doyen – Stories, hugs, and connections are what make working at Noble so special

Ronica Doyen has always been a caregiver.  Prior to joining the nursing team here at Noble Horizons, Ronica was an early childhood educator and for many years serving others in the capacity of a certified nursing assistant.

“My goal has always been to become a nurse.  After being a CNA for many years, I decided it was time to go back to school and take the leap.  I love to care for people and nurture them – especially the elderly because they are often the most vulnerable,” says Ronica.

Ronica earned her nursing license in 2020.  She noted “It was surely an interesting time to become a nurse – in the midst of a pandemic and then a nursing shortage!  I never really worried about COVID, I took all the precautions, practiced a lot of self-care, and trusted my body would be ok – and it was.“

When asked why she chose to work in a senior living community versus a hospital or a doctor’s office environment Ronica said it was all about the deep connections she can make with the residents. She gets to know them, hears amazing stories about their lives and they enjoy hearing about her life and children.

“At Noble Horizons the environment is very different from a hospital or a traditional nursing home – it’s like I’m in the resident’s home.  I get the opportunity to sit and have deep conversations, give them a hug if they need it and just let them know they are loved and appreciated. It’s amazing being a part of their lives. “

Being a nurse at Noble has allowed Ronica a great work-life balance.  “We work as a team here at Noble and everyone is wonderful - willing to teach and help wherever and whenever it’s needed.  The Director of Nursing, Autumn Cockcroft is so understanding and wonderful to work with.

Outside of Noble Horizons, Ronica enjoys spending time with her family – including her 16-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter. You’ll probably find them hiking, biking, kayaking, and paddle boarding as Ronica says “Summer is our season!”.
