Michael Brown, Hotchkiss School Programs

Like you, we were thrilled to see 2020 end and it was with extra exuberance that we welcomed 2021 with a New Year’s Eve parade!  Accompanied by mimosas, residents cheered as staff members scattered bubbles and commemorated the opportunity for new beginnings.  We trust that you, too, were able to usher in hope and the possibility for better times ahead.

Noble Horizons residents remain COVID-free, a distinction acheived by just 4% of CT nursing homes. That said, we are grateful for the continued roll-out of the new COVID vaccine which offers the exciting prospect of gatherings amid family and friends once again.  All who live and work at Noble are looking forward to a second round of the vaccine this Wednesday and we hope that you will soon have access to the vaccine and the relief of renewed safety and wellness.

Our nation’s celebration of Martin Luther King Day affords another opportunity for renewal and we invite you to join our candlelight ceremony on January 18 at 5 pm at which we will honor the ideals of peace, unity and understanding.  We will light candles at 5 pm after which Michael Brown will lead us in song, words and reflection and a reaffirmation of our commitment to freedom and justice for all.  You, your friends and your family can share in the power of our community observance by signing on to our Facebook page which will live stream the program.

If you live locally, we encourage you to stop by Noble’s main entrance on January 18 between 9 am-3 pm to pick up a care package that includes a votive candle to light with us at 5 pm, several essentials to help you stay safe during the pandemic and a few treasures that are sure to bring a smile and lift to your day.

Hotchkiss Faculty Offer Programs

Noble Horizons has long enjoyed welcoming you to campus events and while we wait for the opportunity to do so again, we hope you are enjoying our online programs.  In fact, if you missed last week’s lively conversation between former television reporter Bill Littauer and attorney turned author Tom Morrison, you can find it here.

In addition to our free weekly balance, movement and yoga classes, you can look forward to a late January/early February speaker series from Hotchkiss faculty members.  Presenters include Amy Sidran, who will discuss the cutting edge innovations she is undertaking at the school’s farm; Yassine Talhaoui, Director of Diversity and Inclusion; and Parker Reed, the School’s master of Shakespeare on stage and off. Beginning March 3, Carita Gardiner will lead a guided book club reading of Liz Moore’s New York Times bestseller “Long Bright River” and Keith Moon returns to teach a course that for the first time will not feature Russia!

Please check the website this week for details and additional events.  If you are interested in specific programs, speakers or topics, please let us know here.
