The incomparable Michael Brown performed a free outdoor concert pondside on an exquisite early August summer evening for close to 100 adoring fans! Guests gathered with picnics to enjoy the astonishingly talented musician known for his soaring vocals, dazzling piano artistry and captivating stage presence.
Michael Brown moved to the northwest corner over twenty years ago (he splits his time between Litchfield County and Paris, France) and captivated legions of music lovers when he introduced gospel music to the area. Since then, and under his charismatic leadership, gospel choirs have proliferated throughout the region. Brown directs gospel choirs at the Hotchkiss School (for 18 years), Salisbury School, Westover, Taft and South Kent schools as well as several church choirs and will be teaching at Sacred Heart University this fall. Gospel music, explains Brown, is “music that is spirited, heart-rendering and full of joy.” Brown regaled his enthusiastic audience with patriotic songs, Broadway favorites, a Beatles medley and other ’60s favorites, even asking all ex-hippies to raise their hands which elicited laughter and cheers! Brown also helped his guests sing a few songs on their own!
