That said, maintaining healthy diet plans for seniors it isn’t quite as simple as following the USDA’s nutritional guideline recommendations as nutritional needs for seniors are different.  Maintaining a healthy weight and energy levels is largely based on the nutrients available in your food; making good choices also lowers the risk of developing chronic health conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes.

A special diet plan can seem daunting, but it’s a fact of life for millions of seniors, and at Noble Horizons, our chefs draw on a combined 50 years of experience in some of the area’s finest restaurant kitchens to offer creative menus that reflect residents’ meal preferences and seasonal food availability.

Nutrition is a key to healthy aging – it promotes brain health, boosts the immune system, helps manage chronic conditions, makes muscles stronger, and even helps prevent strokes, bone loss, and some forms of cancer. To say it’s pretty important is an understatement. However, proper nutrition can be different for each person and can change based on medications, activity levels and health conditions.

Noble’s food selections are overseen by a nutritionist as well as a resident food committee that encourages suggestions and feedback.  Dining options include three daily meals served in the Riga Dining Room, although residents may reserve the private dining room for special meals with family and friends, or enjoy room service.  Cottagers may request meal delivery to their home. Because our in-house dietitian overseeing all selections, dietary specific restrictions like gluten-free, low sodium, and low sugar diets are ac­commodated based on individual need.

Communication is key when it comes to managing senior diet plans.  The nursing team works directly with the Dining Department on behalf of residents to ensure the chefs have up to date information regarding a person’s specific dietary needs; residents are encouraged to share their preferences as well as it is essential that the dining experience is pleasant, tasty, and enjoyable.
