Inside the Creative Process with Jonathan Doster

Noble Horizons has produced its first video, featuring residents giving their unique perspectives on life at Noble and celebrating the beauty of the campus. The video is the work of noted photographer/videographer Jonathan Doster of Sharon, who spent many hours here over the summer.

In this webstory, Jonathan writes about the experience of working closely with the residents and the creative process.

“When Bill Pond first suggested the concept of producing a “soulful” video for Noble Horizons, I understood that he was hoping for a creation that was more of an artistic rendering than a conventional promotional piece. Something with a meditative, zen-like feel. Given that my documentary style is somewhat impressionistic, it seemed like a good fit.

Though there are many dimensions to the Noble Horizons community, the focus here was to feature the lush campus and how the residents interact with their surroundings.

Three residents and a family member graciously agreed to offer a personal glimpse into their lives while being filmed. Not an easy request, yet they all proved to be naturals.

Editing hours of commentary down to a few sentences was challenging. Once a sequence of images was established, montage transitions were applied to create visual intrigue. I especially like the spiritual interplay of Rosemary with a cosmic flow of minnows and the iconic “Fountain of Life.” Synchronizing imagery and upbeat, floating music then took the production to another level. Ultimately, this is a tribute to the beauty of the Noble Horizon community and a welcoming appeal for future residents.”
