Discovering Shakespeare’s Sonnets
Join Hotchkiss School Shakespeare instructor Parker Reed on February 2 at 11 am for a weekly series running through February 16th on the sonnets of William Shakespeare.[nbsp] Reed, an instructor in English and Theater, holds The Peter Jay Sharp ’48 Chair; he earned an MFA in Staging Shakespeare, founded a Shakespearean acting company, and directs for the Hotchkiss Dramatic Association.
Shakespeare is recognized as one of the world’s most celebrated playwrights, but he also wrote 154 sonnets-one stanza poems of 14 lines-exploring the themes of love, infidelity, lust, mortality, desire, beauty and other emotions that probe the human condition.[nbsp] Reed will lead an exploration of Shakespeare’s sonnets and reveal some of the techniques he used to develop his facility with language. The classes will be held on February 2, 9, and 16 11 am-noon. Please register below for the Zoom link.
