Linda Orlowski, LMSW was welcomed as Noble Horizons’ Director of Social Work. Linda not only has vast experience in the field, but her father was a partner in Hartford County’s first purpose-built long-term nursing care community which opened in 1955. Linda is a resident of Connecticut’s northwest corner and has worked in varied settings, including 14 years at Valerie Manor in Torrington, and most recently at Regal Care in Waterbury. She has specialized training in memory care.
Linda and Noble Horizons seemed destined to unite. Just after Linda was born, her father and his business partner opened The Farmington Convalescent Home. Linda accompanied her father to work frequently, and warmly recalls her many roles at Farmington Convalescent, “I planted flower bulbs, played games with the residents, helped in the kitchen and assisted in the office. I have wonderful memories of those years.”
While raising her family, Linda assisted expectant mothers in birthing classes where she found they often sought her advice. “I discovered a natural affinity for counseling so I returned to school for my degree in Social Work.” Shortly after graduating from Fordham with her Master’s, a job opened at a senior healthcare community near her home. “The moment I walked in the door, it felt like home.”
Linda cherishes her relationships with seniors, particularly those who need memory care. “My mother and older brother suffered from dementia diseases so I especially enjoy forging connections with residents experiencing memory loss. Music is a powerful force for reawakening treasured memories so I’ll ask family members for a resident’s favorite songs. When I recently played an Otis Redding song for a blues enthusiast, his eyes lit up, radiating the joy of fond memories and happy times”.
Noble’s warm welcome immediately made Linda feel at home and she looks forward to adding rich memories to those she treasures from her childhood visits with her dad.
Linda can be found in the office adjacent to the Cobble entrance or you may reach her at 860-435-9851 ext. 141.
