A Sense of Place: Bosnia, Hercegovina & Serbia Through the Lens

Noble Horizons invites the community this weekend from 11-4 to view Babs Perkins’ exhibit of photographs entitled “A Sense of Place: Bosnia, Hercegovina & Serbia Through the Lens.”

The exhibition invites to the viewer to travel the crumbling back roads and explore the stunning beauty of former Yugoslavia in search of people, places, and an agricultural way of life that is slowly disappearing. Through this visual investigation the photographer asks us to ponder cultural heritage and the traditions related to food, farming and place in our own communities.

Babs Perkins is a photographer and writer from Norfolk, Connecticut. Her work focuses on the natural environment, cultural documentation and preservation. Over the last several years Babs has been on the road researching and photographing traditional food producers of the Balkans, with special focus on central Serbia and historic Hercegovina (which includes areas in modern day Bosnia and Hercegovina, Croatia and Montenegro) including the farmers, shepherds, cheese makers and beekeepers. The work in this collection is a product of six individual trips spanning more than 15 months in the region.

The exhibit is open to the public weekends 11-4 through October 28. Noble Horizons is located at 17 Cobble Road in Salisbury, CT. More information is available at 860-435-9851.
