Practicing Life During COVID: A Stoic Approach with Dr. Mary O’Neill

This event is repeated every 7 days until Jul 30, 2020. The next event will take place on . until Jul 30, 2020.

Beginning Thursday, July 9 from 10:30-11:30 am, Noble Horizons will host Dr. Mary O’Neill for a four-week Zoom series on the pillars of Stoicism and how its themes provide the tools needed to examine central questions of life, especially in the time of COVID. Using The Practicing Stoic by Ward Farnsworth, O’Neill and her students will explore Stoic writings to promote greater awareness and understand life’s arc.

In week one O’Neill will present a basic overview of Stoic thinking and themes. In subsequent weeks, Dr. O’Neill will use Dr. Farnsworth’s book to guide class members in a participant-led Socratic discussion of Stoic themes to examine questions of death, adversity, and virtue--themes very present in our COVID world.

Mary B. O’Neill, Ph.D. was an award-winning lecturer in philosophy and international business at Western CT State University before becoming the Career Experience Coordinator at Housatonic Valley Regional High School. She is a senior contributing writer at Main Street Magazine.
