Carita Gardiner of The Hotchkiss School Offers a New Book Club

Zoom Meeting

On November 4 from 5-6 pm Noble Horizons will host Hotchkiss School instructor Carita Gardiner for a guided book club read of the best seller,  The Vanishing Half.  Written by multiple award winning author, Brit Bennett, the book is a multi-generational story of twin sisters from a small, southern community, one of whom who grows up to pass for white, the other living with her black daughter in the same town in which the twins grew up.  Long listed for the National Book Award, The New York Times wrote,  “Bennett’s gorgeously written second novel, an ambitious meditation on race and identity, considers the divergent fates of twin sisters, born in the Jim Crow South, after one decides to pass for white. Bennett balances the literary demands of dynamic characterization with the historical and social realities of her subject matter.”  Bennet, a graduate of Stanford University and University of Michigan, is a National Book Foundation "5 under 35" honoree whose essays are featured in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, The Paris Review and elsewhere.

Carita Gardiner, a former Chair of the Hotchkiss School English Department, holds a B.A., from Amherst College, an M.Ed. from Harvard University, and an M.A. from Middlebury College.  Her free program meets on November 4, 11, 18, 24 and December 1 from 5-6 pm via Zoom.  Please register below for Zoom link.
