A Sense of Place
On Friday, September 21, from 5-7pm, Noble Horizons invites the community to an opening reception for documentarian Babs Perkins and her exhibit of photographs entitled “A Sense of Place: Bosnia, Hercegovina & Serbia Through the Lens.”
This exhibition invites the viewer to travel the crumbling back roads and explore the stunning beauty of former Yugoslavia in search of people, places, and an agricultural way of life that is slowly disappearing. Through this visual investigation the photographer asks us to ponder cultural heritage and the traditions related to food, farming and place in our own communities.
Babs Perkins is a photographer and writer from Norfolk, Connecticut. Her work focuses on the natural environment, cultural documentation and preservation. Over the last several years Babs has been on the road researching and photographing traditional food producers of the Balkans, with special focus on central Serbia and historic Hercegovina (which includes areas in modern day Bosnia and Hercegovina, Croatia and Montenegro) including the farmers, shepherds, cheese makers and beekeepers. The work in this collection is a product of six individual trips spanning more than 15 months in the region.
Occasionally, events may be cancelled due to inclement weather or other conditions beyond our control. In that case, we will make every effort to update our website and contact registrants.
Official photographs made at the event may include you as a subject and could be used in future editorial and promotional contexts in print and electronic media. Images will not be identified using full names without written approval from the individual. Please notify Noble Horizons staff if you would prefer that your photo not be used.
